Jason McElroy Scholarship
Shawn and Barbara McElroy have established an annual scholarship for a deserving Parachute High School Student, in memory of their son, Jason McElroy.
The “Jason McElroy Scholarship” is an annual scholarship in the amount of $500 and given to a worthy candidate who meets the criteria below. This will be funded through donations by Barbara and Shawn McElroy in memory of their son Jason.
- A written recommendation by one of the student’s current teachers.
- The student applicant will write a short synopsis of their academic, extra-curricular, and volunteer activities as well as why they believe they should be selected for this scholarship.
- The student must intend to attend a recognized trade school, apprenticeship, or college program and show acceptance to such program.
- A one-page essay addressing “What does it mean to be an American Citizen?” considering one’s rights and responsibilities.
The scholarship application will be posted on the website of the Grand Valley United Methodist Church, available at the church office during set business hours, and distributed to the High School counselor’s office. The Scholarship description (same as this page) is available as well.
Completed applications are due April 15 each year so the selection can be made and announced before graduation. Applications are to be turned in to the High School counselor for collecting by the church on April 16. This scholarship is non-renewable.
The selection committee will be composed of a member or representative from the McElroy family and at least 2 other members from the church and or community.
Funds are to be distributed to the recognized program in the name of the recipient.
